Project T.E.A.R.

A vital education and prevention outreach project directed to teens aged 12-18 currently enrolled in middle and high schools in at–risk communities. This pacesetting project educates youth on:

  • the devastating effects of domestic violence
  • different forms of abuse
  • the cycles of violence
  • warning signs
  • domestic violence statistics and offences
  • a history of domestic violence and mandatory reporting laws
  • healthy relationships
  • how to receive help and access available resources in their communities

Encouraging youth to hold a zero tolerance toward domestic violence, the lectures/workshops provide a safe forum to recognize they are not alone, disclose abuse, prevent youth from entering into or staying in abusive relationships as well as preventing silence when confronted by or witnessing violence among their peers.

The T.E.A.R. Presentation

Teens Ending Abusive Relationships (T.E.A.R.) is a 60-90 minute presentation and workshop containing relevant and engaging music videos and media clips. Though these videos may be upsetting for some viewers, they are essential in illustrating the different dimensions of domestic violence and its effects on individuals, the family and the community.

Not only do the lectures/workshops provide a safe forum to recognize they are not alone, disclose abuse, or prevent silence when confronted by, or witnessing violence among their peers, they encourage zero tolerance for domestic violence, help to prevent youth from entering into or staying in abusive relationships, and breaks the destructive cycle of violence. A key Project T.E.A.R. element is empowering youth to take initiative in their own communities, and to educate the public and their peers.
